Character Personality: Since FFXIII lays down the groundwork and backstory for Serah's personality I've included a detailed breakdown of her personality from those events as well. Then, because she goes through so many changes over the course of the second game I've also included some comparisons. These were written at different times and then merged, so apologies for the difference in tenses in some places.

FFXIII: Serah is a very sweet girl by nature: curious, sensitive, eager to learn, but mature, soft spoken, and gentle. She's the kind of person that seems to have wisdom beyond her years as well as an unspoken inner strength belied by a sweet and fragile looking exterior. She has a lot of patience and generally she's very accommodating of others, but she shouldn't be mistaken for being a doormat. Not even her sister has seen the true depths of Serah's strength. There would have never been a need before the events in the two games and it seems unlikely that Serah showed it till then either. It's hinted at in FFXIII, but according to the introduction for FFXIII-2 Serah didn't know how to fight with weapons until learning in the sequel (though she's also apparently a very fast learner, as most video game heroes are). She's pretty much accustomed to being protected and rescued, simply because the two most important people in her life are always there, always jumping in or showing up to save the day.

Before the events of the first game Serah had an interest in studying history. Her interest in the Vestige would suggest that her interest specifically lies in architectural history (or perhaps the history of artifacts, ancient history, or Pulse artifacts and Pulse itself instead) in particular and had plans to attend university at Cocoon's largest city (Eden). Later on she contemplates becoming a teacher in order to teach the recent history of Cocoon's fall to survivors (now settlers).

She and her older sister were orphaned, and they've relied on one another for support and care ever since. While Lightning (as she's calling herself now) seems to be acting as the provider Serah would be the one that acts as the support. She knows her sister works hard for their well being, hers (Serah's) more than her own. Serah is the type of girl that would work hard to pull her weight in other ways.

She seems to understand the loss, sacrifice, and personal changes that Lightning has endured following the death of their parents and tends to give the elder female room to do what she feels like she needs to do while still looking out for her as well in her own way; actually, the same could be said of anyone that Serah befriends. She's practical and thoughtful, and so long as her head is clear she's often looking out for the well being of others ahead of herself. Lightning's gift from Serah was a very nice survival knife to help protect her while on duty. It was also Serah's plea that convinced Light to take her own birthday off work.

Really, it doesn't seem like Serah asks for very much, either, perhaps in lieu of all that's happened in their lives she's simply learned to be grateful for what she has and what she can attain by her own strength.

She's clearly accustomed to Lightning's straight forward way of dealing with things with complete finality, and as close as they are because of their loss even Serah still feels fear of her sister's rejection. Though Serah understands Lightning rather well it doesn't SEEM like it's mutual. The air between the two seems to be one of patience and protection, with Serah often times following what Lightning thinks is best and Serah avoiding being willful or difficult. I think that her fear of being rejected stemmed more from the nature of the truth. Becoming a Pulse l'cie is the worst possible thing that could happen for so many reasons, just announcing the engagement alone would have been far easier. I can't begin to imagine Serah being afraid or even nervous about THAT, given that it was her decision, and something that made her happy. Light did, after all, either consent to Serah and Snow dating or had accepted that Serah was going to make her own choices in life (my money is on number two).

As to the proposal-- Admittedly the timing of announcing her engagement to Snow could have maybe been better, but upon being told of the proposal and Serah's being branded Lightning's flippant disbelief and scolding words are enough to send Serah fleeing from the room in tears. It's already bad enough that Lightning's career puts them on directly opposing sides. After agonizing for days over whether or not she SHOULD tell her sister, then HOW to tell her sister, to be dismissed so quickly proves to be too much in too short a time. Between being branded, trying to face her frightening focus, and telling Lightning it all happens within the span of around a week, a week and a half (the "first 13 days" according to the game). It's not long after she was branded in the first place. The shock of the event, and the emotional roller coaster that followed led to a string of events that changes the course of all three of their lives, as well as that of two others that were dragged into their mess.

Like most other people Serah needed a little help to come around and face the situation, but I think it still speaks volumes of her character that she was able to. To face all of this with seemingly only one person willing to stand by her side demonstrates character for her in ways that I think she didn't expect. In the course of one week she's confronted with becoming a Fal'cie slave (a l'cie), and the terrifying likelihood that she's expected to destroy her home world and kill everyone she loves. There's also the realization that either way, either failure to or succeeding in completing her focus means that she can never be with her loved ones again. With help from Snow she accepts the reality of her situation and then bravely challenges it, and wins. She didn't know if she'd become a Ceith or crystal when she defied her focus, but she did it anyway, prepared to accept the consequences for her choice, even if it meant doing it alone. At the same time I doubt she ever considered herself to be truly alone after that talk with Snow, and his proposal-- a reminder that she had people that cared about her no matter what her fate turned out to be.

Through the course of the first game she seems to be a good balance for Snow. Like him she's always trying to look on the bright side, see the good in people instead of the bad, and is content with being swept up in his energetic attitude. In many instances she seems to be his moral compass. In some ways she already acts like his wife, scolding him teasingly when he's late or reckless, not at all afraid to rely on him, trusting, too. She loves that big lug and seems to take strength from that bond that they share. Really-- all in all Serah cares deeply for all of the people around her. She'll always try her hardest to do right by them and her own heart.

FFXIII-2: In Final Fantasy XIII-2, after the events of history are altered, even after three years Serah is continually doubtful of the reality she lives in. She seemed to hold out for three years with the belief that her sister is alive out there, but it isn’t until Noel shows up that she has the strength to leave home and find out, instead of waiting to be taken care of. She expresses that it took Snow's and Lightning's departures for her to find her own identity, to make a niche for herself and settle down on a path, but it doesn't take long for her to blossom after setting out. Noel shows her the ropes of fighting along the way and Serah reveals a strong, confident young woman, even quite a bit willful and hotblooded! Her outward demeanor is still sweet and considerate of those around her, masking her fears of not being able to do what they've set out to do, as well as her initial fear and confusion over the visions that she has and what it means each time she has a new one, coming closer to death. Even in light of this terrifying prospect through her sheer strength of moral character she has a strong desire to continue helping others and making things right for the future, even problems that have little to nothing to do with her own. Though she does look to Noel a lot at first and ends up following him around a great deal that too eventually begins to change as she gains even more confidence in their path and gets the hang of navigating the paradoxes and time itself. Her insecurities and uncertainties of finding the people she’s set out to look for fade with each new era. Her temper is pretty long but she has a tendency to yell when reaching her breaking point. She doesn’t want to see anything bad happen to Noel (who is part of her family as well now), or the people she loves; that’s why she’ll risk her own life to change the future and assure that he has a place to be around other people, to be happy instead of alone

Most noticeably, Serah grows out of some of her nativity through the course of the game..In comparison to the other characters at the beginning of FFXIII-2 she seems content to rely on Snow as "her hero". One of the members/leaders of NORA initially yells at her that "Lightning is dead! She can't protect you anymore!", and she's right. Lightning and Snow are both gone, but Serah is still being looked after by NORA, Snow's surrogate family. As she is in the first game she's only really feared by her students (when she's angry), and adults almost seem like they're humoring her more than take her temper seriously. Serah finds her real strength through her travels and the change is tangible. The air about her just seems different, she carries herself with a firmer confidence while managing not to be overbearing, still.

Character Abilities: Final Fantasy Wikia: Serah Farron - Skills and Abilities - Spoilers for FFXIII-2. Serah has a few varying powers of note, so I'm sorry if this gets a little TL;DR.
Normally she fights with an enchanted bowsword, a Moogle named Mog with the ability to transform into the weapon when Serah needs it. His weapon form also boosts her abilities a bit. What I've done in the past when apping her to games is say that when she summons her weapon it's strictly as an inanimate object, rather than the sentient Mog (since Mog is an appable character in many games).

In the world of FF13 characters who are branded as l'cie are granted supernatural abilities. The skills all fall into special classes- typical RPG stuff. The roles have a slightly modern twist on them in this series. In 13-2, even though Serah is no longer a l'cie she is one of the few people able to use magic due to the chaos in her heart (long story short, everyone has some but Serah has more than most due to her ties to the goddess Etro).

There are six universal roles, all of which Serah has access to by end-game in 13-2. Serah's crystarium can be found here and more information on each role can be found by clicking the titles- if you guys need it.

Commando: Specializing in physical attacks and deals physical based damage, sometimes elemental
Ravager: Offensive magic spells such as Blizzaga, Sparkstrike, and Gravity
Sentinel: They take the heavy hits and can even distribute the damage so that it's lessened for all party members
Medic: Healers using white magic spells such as Curaga, Esuna, and Dispel
Synergist: They offer both defensive and offensive buffs to party members such as Protect and Shell
Saboteur: Capable of casting status ailments to either individual opponents or a group of enemies depending on the spell and skill level

Each of these roles come with a skill tree with several skills along the way that are unlocked (along with stat boosts etc.). Basically Serah is very skilled and strong with her weapon and magic. If this needs to be capped in any way I could limit her to accessing only three out of the six roles: Ravager, Synergist, and Sentinel? I just need to know if a cap is necessary.

Without those she has typical RPG protag strengths such as being able to jump greater distances than the average human (nothing extreme, no leaping or climbing buildings, don't worry), and seems to be capable of taking hard hits (and never ever gets dirty or suffer from clothing malfunctions).

Last, Serah is a servant of the goddess Etro. As such she has two unique abilities. One of which is an ability to see visions of the future (though that's both involuntary and fatal), and the other being an ability to tame monsters. If monsters from her world are defeated (or sometimes found) under certain conditions they are turned into crystals which Serah presumably uses like an eidolith to summon them to her side at any given time (shattering the monster's crystal to call it from... wherever it goes when it's not loose).

QUESTION FOR THE MOD-TEAM: She does carry the crystals of defeated monsters with her (in her pouch of supplies). Would their supernatural powers need to be capped?
Character Inventory: Her clothes, which includes a pouch on her hip where she presumably keeps potions, phoenix downs, monster materials, clothes (DLC wardrobe)- FINAL FANTASY/RPG HAMMER SPACE. :| But I don't want to go overboard.
Interaction Sample: Serah, Nico Di Angelo, and Percy Jackson
Third Person Sample: (Written with a just slightly later canon point in mind.)

She had every reason to think she had been drawn into a paradox, but no idea how or why. And why not? Waking up in a strange room, in a strange land she didn't recognize? It wasn't at all what she'd been expecting.

Serah looked over the letter again in disbelief. The last thing she could clearly remember in the... well, the mortal world was thanking Noel, then that overwhelming vision, the cold, and the pain in her chest. The last thing she remembered after THAT was pleading with Lightning to keep her memory alive before her soul had departed. How in the world did she wake up HERE...?

"Wherever I am, I wonder if I'm here alone...?"

The letter was turned and carefully folded in her hands, but otherwise kept close.

Serah wondered... brows furrowing with a worried expression as she brought the parchment to rest over her lips, clasped in both hands almost as if it were precious.

"Could this be Etro's doing, somehow...? But how, and for what purpose?"

Am I really dead then? Does she still need my help? Is she asking me to help stop the chaos from the other side? And if that's true, then maybe Lightning is here!

It certainly seemed possible. A group fighting against an unseen force that would destroy both her world and theirs, and it wouldn't be the first time she'd been "chosen" to be a champion. Her visions, her journey, her abilities, all granted by Etro.

The theory seemed sound, but even if it didn't- if someone was in trouble and she could do something about it then there was no question as to what she should do. Help in whatever way she could. The method seemed a bit hard to believe, but she could at least get out there and look for confirmation, for answers. Being in the dark about the details wasn't an excuse to say no.

Besides, if she could still help Noel, Hope, Sazh, and the others to face the future she'd seen then she would gladly take up the fight from her side of things. Whatever these people, whatever this city needed Serah was ready to give her support, for the sake of the people she loved.

She picked up the packet that had been shoved into her hands a short while ago as well, standing from her seat and moving towards the area with two young adults seated nearby. She would commit as much of the information she gained to memory as possible in case it would prove to be important later in solving the puzzle of a grander design.
